New Life Recovery Hub

Our Impact & Success Stories

Transforming lives, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for lasting wellbeing and recovery.

INTRODUCTION

Making a Difference Where It Matters Most

At New Life Recovery Hub, we believe that everyone deserves access to support, understanding and opportunities that enable them to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Every counselling session, wellbeing activity, workshop, community meal and recovery intervention contributes to positive change for individuals and families facing complex challenges.

Through culturally informed support and community engagement, we help people overcome barriers, improve wellbeing and reconnect with their communities.

THE NEED FOR OUR WORK

Why Our Work Matters

Many of the people we support face multiple disadvantages, including poor mental health, substance misuse, trauma, domestic abuse, poverty, discrimination, language barriers and social isolation.

For many individuals, mainstream services can feel inaccessible due to cultural stigma, fear of judgement or a lack of culturally responsive support.

New Life Recovery Hub provides a trusted and welcoming environment where people feel understood, respected and empowered to seek help.

STORIES OF HOPE AND TRANSFORMATION

Behind every statistic is a person whose life has been positively impacted through support, connection and opportunity.

– J.A. Substance Misuse & Whole Family Support

"When I first came to NLRH, my drug use had affected every part of my life, including my relationship with my children. The counselling helped me understand the trauma behind my addiction rather than simply feeling judged. The support extended to my family, and today we communicate much better. I have remained engaged with recovery and feel hopeful about the future."

– M.K. Substance Misuse & Whole Family Support

"I had tried to stop using drugs several times but always returned because of loneliness and unresolved pain. NLRH listened to me without judgement. The counselling, home visits, and encouragement helped me rebuild my confidence and reconnect with my family. I now believe recovery is possible."

– S.O. Substance Misuse & Whole Family Support

"Our family was struggling because of a relative's substance misuse. NLRH supported not only the person using substances but also the whole family. We learned how to communicate better, understand addiction, and support recovery in a healthier way. The service has brought hope back into our home."

– P.N. Alcohol Recovery

"Alcohol had become my way of coping with stress and depression. Through regular counselling and attending the Hub, I realised I was not alone. I have significantly reduced my drinking and now have healthier ways of dealing with life's challenges."

– R.E. Alcohol Recovery

"I felt ashamed to ask for help because of my culture. NLRH provided a safe place where I could speak openly about my alcohol use without fear of being judged. The support has helped me regain control of my life and rebuild relationships with my family."

– A.H. Loneliness, Isolation & Language Barriers

"When I arrived in Scotland, I felt isolated because I spoke very little English and knew no one. NLRH welcomed me like family. I made friends, gained confidence, and learned about services that I never knew existed. I no longer feel alone."

– F.U. Loneliness, Isolation & Language Barriers

"Depression and loneliness made me stay indoors most days. The Hub became my safe place. Meeting people from similar backgrounds helped me feel accepted, and I slowly regained my confidence. My mental health has improved greatly because I now feel part of a community."

– T.B. Young People – Skills, Confidence & Opportunities

"NLRH helped me believe in myself again. I attended life skills sessions, met positive role models, and received support to access education and volunteering opportunities. I am now much more confident and optimistic about my future."

– C.A. Young People – Skills, Confidence & Opportunities

"The Hub introduced me to people who encouraged me to pursue my goals. Through referrals and mentoring, I accessed support that helped me improve my wellbeing and develop new skills. I now have more confidence to make positive decisions."

– L.G. Community Empowerment & Wellbeing

"Before coming to NLRH, I felt invisible. The team treated me with dignity and respect from the very first day. The counselling, group activities, and community events helped me rediscover my confidence and purpose. NLRH has given me hope and reminded me that I matter."

– A.M. Domestic Abuse, Relationship Support & Marital Counselling

"I was living in a controlling relationship and had completely lost confidence in myself. At NLRH, I was listened to without judgement. Through counselling, I recognised the signs of emotional abuse, developed the confidence to make informed decisions, and began rebuilding my life. Today, I feel safe, independent, and hopeful for the future."

– J.K. Domestic Abuse, Relationship Support & Marital Counselling

"Our marriage was breaking down because we struggled to understand each other's expectations and cultural differences. NLRH provided a safe space where both of us could talk openly. We learned healthier ways of communicating and resolving conflict. Our relationship is now much stronger, and our children are benefiting from a more peaceful home."

– S.E. Domestic Abuse, Relationship Support & Marital Counselling

"I felt ashamed to seek help because, in my culture, relationship problems are kept private. NLRH understood my cultural background and respected my values while helping me recognise unhealthy behaviours. Instead of telling me what was available, they listened to what I actually needed. That made all the difference."

– M.O. Domestic Abuse, Relationship Support & Marital Counselling

"When I arrived at NLRH, I had lost hope in my marriage and in myself. Through counselling and optional faith-based support, I found forgiveness, healing, and renewed purpose. Although our journey has not been easy, we have rebuilt trust and are now moving forward together as a family."

– R.A. Domestic Abuse, Relationship Support & Marital Counselling

"NLRH understood the cultural stigma surrounding domestic abuse within my community. I never felt judged or pressured. Instead, I was empowered to make safe decisions and access the right support. I now have greater confidence, improved mental health, and a safe environment for my children."

– B.U. Parenting & Family Support

"I believed my parenting methods were normal because that was how I was raised. NLRH never criticised my culture or traditions. Instead, they respectfully explained the differences between traditional parenting and parenting within Scottish law. I now have a much better relationship with my children, and our home is calmer and happier."

– H.N. Parenting & Family Support

"I was frightened that professionals would judge me because of my parenting. NLRH treated me with dignity and respect. They helped me understand child development, children's rights, and the legal responsibilities of parents in Scotland. I have changed my approach, and my children are happier and more confident."

– C.O. Parenting & Family Support

"The parenting support helped me understand that discipline does not have to involve fear. I learned positive ways to set boundaries, communicate with my children, and manage conflict. As a result, our family relationships have improved, and there is far less tension at home."

– F.D. Parenting & Family Support

"As an immigrant parent, I often felt caught between my cultural beliefs and raising children in Scotland. NLRH helped me understand both perspectives without making me feel ashamed of my background. I now feel more confident as a parent and have a better understanding of my children's needs and the law."

– K.T. Parenting & Family Support

"NLRH helped me realise that asking for support is a strength, not a weakness. Their whole-family approach gave us practical advice, emotional support, and confidence to make positive changes. Today, our family communicates better, my children feel safer, and we are enjoying life together again."

– New-Life Recovery Hub (NLRH) –

Across our programmes, service users consistently report improved mental wellbeing, stronger family relationships, increased confidence, reduced isolation, better understanding of parenting and Scottish legislation, improved recovery from substance misuse, and greater willingness to access support services. These testimonials reflect the lived experiences of individuals whose lives have been positively transformed through NLRH’s culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and whole-family approach.
